At least 399 Kashmiri Pandits killed in JK since 1990: Survey

19 June 2011
SRINAGAR: A Kashmiri Pandit organisation claimed that at least 399 Pandits have been killed since the eruption of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir in 1990, with 75 per cent of them killed in the first year alone.

"The first list of a survey done by us suggests that 399 Pandits were killed. Our estimate is that the total number of them killed will be around 650 in the last 20 years," Kashmir Pandit Sangharsh Samiti (KPSS) President Sanjay Tickoo told reporters here.
He said the survey to find the exact number of Pandits killed was done in 2008 and 2009, which revealed that 302 members of the community were killed in 1990 alone. 'Over 100 militants waiting at launch pads to enter J-K'
New Delhi (May 08 2011) : At least 700 militants are being trained at various terror camps across the LoC with over 100 waiting at "launch pads" to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
Intelligence inputs suggested that about 700 to 800 militants are holed up in different camps across the Line of Control and getting terror training, Home Ministry officials said.
"Despite our repeated complaints to Pakistan, the terror infrastructure continues to exist across the border and hundreds of terrorists are getting training there. Over 100 are waiting at launch pads to enter Jammu and Kashmir at any time," an official said.
The intelligence inputs also suggested that authorities in Pakistan may try to push more terrorists, belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen, into Kashmir in an attempt to divert attention from itself following the killing of Osama bin Laden.
