‘Over 100 militants waiting at launch pads to enter J&K’

NEW DELHI, May 8: At least 700 militants are being trained at various terror camps across the LoC with over 100 waiting at "launch pads" to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

Intelligence inputs suggested that about 700 to 800 militants are holed up in different camps across the Line of Control and getting terror training, Home Ministry officials said.

"Despite our repeated complaints to Pakistan, the terror infrastructure continues to exist across the border and hundreds of terrorists are getting training there. Over 100 are waiting at launch pads to enter Jammu and Kashmir at any time," an official said.

The intelligence inputs also suggested that authorities in Pakistan may try to push more terrorists, belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen, into Kashmir in an attempt to divert attention from itself following the killing of Osama bin Laden.

Officials said the recent ceasefire violation by the Pakistani troops along the LoC by firing rocket-propelled grenades, medium machine guns and small arms on Indian posts in Poonch district indicated such attempts.

"Firing along the border normally takes place when there is an attempt of infiltration by militants," the official said. The recent firing along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir had taken place on May 5, April 24 and 22.

"The security forces on the ground are fully alert and ready to foil any attempt by the militants to cross the border," the official said. As per intelligence inputs, there are about 42 training camps across the LoC.
