Pak violates ceasefire for the third time in 2011

TNN, Feb 18, 2011
JAMMU: In yet another incident of ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC), Pak troops opened fire on Indian forward locations and used rocket projectile grenades (RPGs) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

"Pak troops violated ceasefire. They fired indiscriminately on Indian posts in Balnoi forward area in Krishnaghati sector of Poonch district around 7.30pm on Thursday," said an Officer of the 16 Corps. He said the firing continued for five minutes. The Indian troops exercised restraint initially but later retaliated to the firing.

The Pakistani army fired some RPG rounds and used automatic weapons to target forward Indian posts in the KG sector, the officer said. He also added that the vigil along the LoC has been enhanced further as Pak firing may be a cover to push militants into the Indian side.

This is the third time that the Pak troops have violated the ceasefire in the Poonch sector. The first and the second incidents of ceasefire violation this year were reported on January 2 and January 13 in which an Indian Army soldier was injured in Pak firing in Shahpur area along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch sector.

The ceasefire came into effect in November 2003 but Pakistan has violated it many times since then. Meanwhile, one army jawan was injured while he stepped on a landmine accidently in Nangi Tekri area in a forward location. The army jawan identified as Naik Satbir has been shifted to military hospital in Poonch.
