Hurriyat (M) seminar today


Srinagar: Hurriyat (M) is organizing a seminar “UN Resolutions---a lawful basis of Kashmir’s disputed status” at its Raj Bagh head office, here on Tuesday, January 4, at 11 am. The proposed seminar is being presided over by the party chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. Prominent analysts and thinkers are scheduled to speak on the subject.  Meanwhile, in a statement, Hurriyat spokesman said, “January 5, 1949, is an important day in the political history of Kashmir. The UNO on this day passed a resolution for the right of self-termination of people of Jammu Kashmir. Though its implementation is still, it provides a legal basis to the disputed status of Kashmir.”
Guv addresses IAS officers
Jammu: The Governor, N N Vohra, today addressed the senior IAS officers attending the mid career training programme at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie from here via video-conferencing. According to an official communiqué, the address was followed by an interactive session. The programme is being attended by about 100 IAS officers belonging to the 1980, 1981 and 1982 batches.
PFL, DPM concerned at detainees’ plight
Srinagar: Peoples’ Freedom League and Democratic Political Movement have expressed concern over continued detention and falling health of political detainees in jails. In statement, League expressed concern over the deteriorating health of its incarcerated general secretary, Muhammad Rafiq Ganai in Heeri Nagar Jail. “Ganai, who is suffering from diabetes, hypertension and renal ailments, is denied medical aid in jail,” League said. The DPM spokesman alleged that its incarcerated leaders advocate Muhammad Shafi, Firdous Ahmad Shah and Shakeel Ahmad Bhat continued to be in jail despite court orders for their release.
ReT forum appeals CM
Srinagar: The Rehbar-e-Taleem Teachers Forum has appealed to the chief minister, Omar Abdullah to address their demand of inclusion of first five years into service for promotion benefits. In a statement, Forum chairman, Gazi Abdul Aziz said Omar had promised to fulfill their demands recently in Jammu. The Forum in a meeting also condoled the demise of ReT teacher, Reyaz Ahmad Chopan.
PDP condoles demise
Srinagar: The People’s Democratic Party president, Mehbooba Mufti and General Secretary, Muhammad Dilawar Mir have condoled the demise of Haji Abdul Rehman Thoker, father-in-law of Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura. In a statement the party said, the duo met Hanjura to express their sympathies.
‘401 deputations, 1522 people approach CM’s Pvt office’
Srinagar: As many as 401 deputation and 1522 individuals from various parts of the valley approached the Chief Minister’s private office here during December last year, seeking redressal of their grievances. According to an official communiqué, the major problems/issues include repairs/up gradation of electric transformer, delay in completion of sewerage/drainage works, dilapidated condition of roads/lanes, delay in sanction of the cases sponsored by various departments to banks for financial assistance and a large number of day to day related issues and problems being faced by the masses. The office also provide counseling and awareness to the visitors seeking financial assistance/employment about setting up of the income generating units, poverty alleviation, welfare and rehabilitation, programmes/schemes launched by the government for their upliftment.
