Cabinet nod to amendments in PSA


SRINAGAR, Oct 28: State Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah this morning, okayed promulgation of the Ordinance for amendments in the Public Safety Act (PSA).
As per the amendments, the detention under the Act in the public order would be initially for three months while as far as security matters are related, the same would be initially for six months.

Moreover, no minor (under 18 years of age) would be detained under the PSA. However, for the foreign nationals, this amendment would not be applicable. The Advisory Boards, which recommend detention under the Act, would have a minimum of three years term.

The Cabinet also approved enhancement of Temporary Move Allowance (TMA) from ` 650 to ` 1500 per month with effect from October 1, 2011 in favour of the move employees. Similarly, the Cabinet sanctioned enhancement of Move TA from existing rate of ` 6000 to ` 10,000 in favour of move employees with effect from October 2011.
