Foreign, local militants pose grave threat to J&K

NEW DELHI, Aug 3: Government today said presence of both foreign and local militants continues to be a matter of grave threat to the peace and security of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Minister of State for Home Jitendra Singh said the government has adopted various counter terrorist methods to neutralise the efforts and capabilities of foreign militants to disturb peace in the state.

"Over the years, due to the efforts of the security forces, the number of foreign terrorists has drastically come down. However, the presence of both foreign and local militants continues to be a matter of grave threat to the peace and security of the people of Jammu and Kashmir," he said in Rajya Sabha.

Singh said there are definite reports about Kashmiri militants having affiliation with foreign terrorist groups like the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, Hizb-ul- Mujahideen, who are mostly located in Pakistan-occupied- Kashmir or Pakistan.

"Kashmiri militants are also reported to have undergone training with these foreign terrorist groups in various camps located in PoK/ Pakistan," he said. The Minister said the government has encouraged policies to mainstream the youth and discourage the local youth from joining militancy. (PTI)
