World Apathy Can Turn Kashmir Into Afghanistan: Malik

Srinagar, Aug 26, KONS: Contrasting the world’s concerns for Afghanistan with what he termed as its indifference to Kashmir, the chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, on Friday said that peaceful struggles apparently had no value and meaning for the international community.

“Big powers and other countries, including India, Pakistan and Iran, have joined hands and set aside differences to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan where violence reigns supreme. But Kashmir which has bid farewell to arms and adopted a non-violent struggle has been relegated to the background,” Malik said in his speech to a large prayer congregation at the Chrar-e-Sharief shrine on the last Friday of Ramzan.

“This amounts to glamourizing violence, and compelling peaceful movements in other parts of world to give up the path of non-violence,” Malik said.

“The conflict in the world’s approach can give birth to another Afghanistan in Kashmir, and throw the prospect of global peace and stability into deeper eclipse,” he said. Stressing that Kashmiris had responded to the world’s urging by adopting peaceful means to agitate their cause, Malik asked the international community and the civil society in India to reciprocate by getting the long-standing issue resolved in a time-bound manner.

“We have not abandoned the philosophy of peace even when our youngsters were cut down with bullets, and our youth, activists and leaders jailed without cause. Will you wake up only when violence erupts again?” he asked, addressing the Indian intelligentsia and the world community.
