Islamabad : Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has enthusiastically hailed the latest support of Iran to the right of self-determination of the struggling people of Kashmir.
The AJK Premier told to media here on Tuesday that he has written a personal letter of warm thanks to Mr Mehmood Ahmedinejad, President of Iran, recalling Iran’s consistent and principled stand on Kashmiris’ basic right of self-determination. Iran has always in the past extended bold support to the just cause of Kashmir.
“Because of India’s massive abuses of human rights in occupied Kashmir Iran in the past had cancelled Indian foreign minister’s visit to Tehran. That was a principled stand as Kashmir dispute exists on the UN Security Council agenda. Iran has been backing the peoples’ rights across the world as part of her international commitments and high regard for principles and human values. The consistent and principled stand of Iran on the basic right of self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir emboldens Kashmiris to pursue their path towards their cherished objectives enshrined in the relevant Kashmir resolutions of the UN Security Council. The peaceful, indigenous and unarmed character of the ongoing Kashmir movement in occupied Kashmir has been acknowledged by the outside world, he added.
In his letter Sardar Attique Ahmed said: “The viewpoint of the people of Jammu and Kashmir is very clear: Kashmiris want what the world promised to them through the Security Council resolutions on Kashmir which pledged restitution to them their right to self-determination. The people of Kashmir expect every right-minded forum of the world to support their cause as it has the sanctity of the United Nations as well”. In the disastrous earthquake in the year 2005 Iran was one of the foremost countries providing prompt relief aid to the affectees in AJK.
