Gadkari initiates fund for terror-affected children in J&K

NEW DELHI: BJP President Nitin Gadkari has initiated setting up a fund for children in Jammu and Kashmir whose families have become victims of terrorist violence. During the recent two-day meeting of BJP office-bearers at Jammu, Gadkari said the party should establish a fund for those children who, or their families, have been affected by terrorism in the trouble-torn state.

"He gave Rs 10,000 on the spot during the meeting. This led other party leaders to donate funds and soon Rs 96,500 was collected," a senior BJP leader, who was present during the meeting, said. BJP general secretary Jai Prakash Nadda has been made in-charge of further collection of money for the fund and its disbursal to the needy children. Gadkari also said in the meeting that the fight in Jammu and Kashmir was not between two communities or religions but between the nationalists and the separatists.

"I met many Muslims in Jammu who told me that they are nationalists and do not support the separatists," the BJP chief said. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj suggested that BJP should not just mention Kashmir while talking about the state. "We should use Jammu and Kashmir and talk about the interest of the whole state," she reportedly said. During the two-conclave, the principal opposition also passed a resolution on scrapping of Article 370 and called for a strong policy on Jammu and Kashmir to combat the separatists.
