BJP PLAYS KASHMIR CARD IN JAMMU

Jammu, Dec 24 : Sending a clear message to the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre for any “compromise on J&K’s integration” with India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday said it would not allow the Parliament to pass any resolution on Autonomy, Self-rule and interlocutors’ recommendations. The party also demanded abrogation of Article 370 that gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir, maintaining it was a “stumbling block” to the development of the state. Besides, the national leadership of the party vowed for a legal fight for all issues pertaining to JK, if not resolved in Indian Parliament.

Addressing ‘Ekta Sankalp Rally’ at Parade Ground, the BJP bigwigs including national president, Nitin Gadkari, veteran leader, L K Advani and leaders of opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitely respectively, voiced a unanimous concern on recent developments in the state and warned the UPA government of “any compromise on J&K integration”.
The party president, Nitin Gadkari announced to fight a legal battle for people of JK in case their issues are not resolved in Parliament, the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj warned the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh that the BJP would not allow the Parliament to function if any “attempt was made to implement or give any weightage to the proposals like Autonomy, Self rule or recommendations of interlocutors on Kashmir”.

“We will not allow the UPA government to give any chance the political parties demanding Autonomy, Self rule, joint administration etc. We will not allow any compromise on integration of J&K with India,” the BJP chief.

Gadkari said that a Central Committee of the party would be constituted for JK which would tour the entire state into its deep interiors and listen to the grievances with possible solutions for discrimination against Jammu and Ladakh regions.  Gadkari blamed Congress’ policies for poverty and unemployment in the state. “As a result of Congress’s policies, Jammu and Kashmir is facing problems of poverty, unemployment and rampant corruption,” he said

Speaking on the occasion, L K Advani said, “Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the founder of erstwhile Bharatiya Jan Sangh, had warned that separatist movement would intensify in the state, if the Centre does not change its Kashmir policy.”
He saluted the state where Mukherjee “sacrificed” his life. He was arrested in Kashmir on May 1953 and later died in custody. The veteran BJP leader presented a strong and account of Jammu’s aesthetic relation with BJP while offering his homage to the soil of the region.

Sushma Swaraj, remarked: “J&K is not a political subject matter for BJP. It is a sentimental and emotional issue that is deeply imbibed into hearts.”  She warned, “We have come here to send a message to the UPA government especially the Congress to remain aware of any mischief with state in context of considering self-rule, autonomy or joint administration. Any attempt in this regard would lead to a national agitation.”

Sushma Swaraj further added that no pre-1953 status would be acceptable to the BJP as is being envisaged by the interlocutors ‘under the garb of conducting fact finding exercise in the state’.  In his address, Arun Jaitley blamed Jawaharlal Nehru’s policy on J&K for the current problems and alleged the Centre, mostly headed by Congress, “directly and indirectly encouraged separatists”.

“Nehru’s idea of authorizing people to decide for administrative sanctions gave rise to the demand of plebiscite followed by weakening of state’s relation with rest of India vis-à-vis its political and constitutional bonds,” he said adding that the third major factor that led to indifference was “non-allowance” of settlement of West Pakistan refugees in the state.
