Civil society, HR groups protest against atrocities in IoK


SRINAGAR : On the eve of International Human Rights day, various civil society groups, students and traders have demanded of the world community to help end continued gross human rights violations in the territory in occupied Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, President of Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Societies, Parvez Imroze told media men during a sit-in at Pratap Park in Srinagar, “We demand an end to injustices and human rights violations. We appeal to the international community to intervene and provide justice to the victims of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir”.

Parvez Imroze said that the government of India was telling bundle of lies about Kashmir situation. “Instead there has been intensification in excesses and militarisation of Kashmir. The authorities continue to harass, intimidate and arbitrarily detain common protestors and political activists in brazen violations of their fundamental political and human rights,” he added.

Recalling the world attention towards massive rights abuses, the Coalition of Civil society, Majlis Mushawarat, Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir Trade Union Centre, Kashmir University Students Union, Kashmir University Research Scholars Association, Valley citizens Council, Chamber Of Commerce and Industries, Kashmir, Citizens Council For Justice and Peoples Rights Movement carried banners and placards reading as “Murdered, not forgotten, Stop war crimes in Kashmir,” and “Torture a tool in conflict” and demanded international intervention in resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

“We want that the world communities should come to Kashmir and see what is happening here.” Abdul Hamid, member of Majils Mushawarat, Shopian said, “We do not want cover ups like it was done in Shopian. We want fair investigation and punishment to the culprits.” “We want an end to disappearances, custodial killings and other human rights violations. We cannot live with it anymore,” said a protester.
