Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao on Friday flagged “worries” like the Chinese practice of giving stapled visas to travellers from Jammu and Kashmir, Beijing’s role in setting up dams in Pak-Occupied Kashmir and its controversial assistance in building nuclear reactors in Pakistan. Addressing a think-tank, she urged China to be more sensitive to Indian concerns.
Rao said India was not against Pakistan’s relations with other countries, but added: “We do not hesitate to stress our genuine concerns regarding some aspects of the China-Pakistan relationship, particularly when it comes to China’s role in PoK,China’s J&K policy and the Sino-Pak security and nuclear relationship.” “The need for mutual sensitivity to each other’s concerns cannot be denied,” she said at the Observer Research Foundation.
“The issue of giving stapled visas to Indian nationals from Jammu and Kashmir arises in a similar context.
“We believe that the Sino-Indian relationship will grow even stronger as China shows more sensitivity on core issues that impinge on our sovereignty and territorial integrity,” she said.
Wen’s Delhi trip around December 16 comes when India has put on hold confidence-building military relations between the two countries. New Delhi took the decision after Beijing didn’t let a General travel to China on an official trip because he was in charge of troops deployed in Jammu and Kashmir.
